Humble Beginning
Passionate parents who dreamt of creating an environment where our Tokelauan children are taught using their treasured Tokelauan language, was the seedling that birthed Mataliki Tokelau Akoga Kamata.
In 1987, a small group of Tokelauan parents set up their first preschooler’s playgroup, taking turns hosting these in their humble garages. Two mothers embarked on the journey of gaining the required qualifications to become bonified ECE teachers – one whose daughter now teaches with Mataliki Tokelau Akoga Kamata today.
In 1998, our current premises were acquired & the school and its staff have since gone from strength to strength. Today we are 17 staff strong with a roll consisting of up to 65 students – consistently exceeding the ECC Regulations standard ratio of teacher to pupils.
